Ryanair Censorship!

Some of you may be wondering why there are no pictures of Ryanair aircraft on our homepage, even though IALPA has over 110 Ryanair pilots amongst its members. On 24th May 2010, IALPA received correspondence from Ryanair accusing IALPA of infringing their trademarks by showing a Ryanair aircraft on our website.

So as to operate the IALPA website to the highest legal and ethical standards, we have removed the Ryanair aircraft picture notwithstanding the large numbers of Ryanair Pilots who are IALPA members and fly these aircraft on a daily basis.

This is not the first time Ryanair has attempted to censor the IALPA website.

Those who may have visited the IALPA website in the past may remember our old photo mosaic and subsequent letters from Ryanair. Published below is a copy of them all for reference purposes:

Our Old Homepage:

"Oh, it is excellent to have a giant 's strength; but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant"

(Isabella in Measure for Measure Act II.2 - quoted by Mr Justice T Smyth
describing Ryanair's actions in the REPA High Court judgement.)

The IALPA homepage until 17:00 hrs today, Oct 4th 2006 contained images of all aircraft types flown by IALPA members. Recently Ryanair have entered into correspondence with IALPA concerning the use of the Ryanair aircraft featured on our photo mosaic.
We have decided to remove the picture of the Ryanair aircraft, notwithstanding the substantial number of Ryanair pilots who are IALPA members.
